My first assignment at Jungheinrich was in the department ´Product Sales Management Parts` in Kaltenkirchen, Germany. One of my projects there was the support of the company-wide battery and energy management. Especially in terms of li-ion technology, Jungheinrich is a pioneer with extensive knowledge in electro mobility gained over more than 60 years of experience.
Immediately after my first assignment, I got the chance to start my first assignment abroad to gain a broader knowledge in this topic. I received a project description, grabbed my slicker and took the next flight to London. For the next three months, Milton Keynes was considered my new home, a city 45 minutes north of London.
Warmly welcomed by the local JH colleagues, I started a quick onboarding process. In order to understand the market, the tasks and the local customers, I had the chance to join different teams during their daily business. During the three months, my task was to research, understand and analyse the service processes related to the battery service. In a nutshell: My job was to challenge the current processes and to give improvement recommendations. Within this task, I had the chance to act as an independent consultant, influenced neither by the headquarters in Hamburg, nor by the sales unit in the UK.
My task was relatively challenging, but much more, it was a great experience to grow. On the one hand, in a professional way, I built up a better understanding of the UK market (processes, the sales units, employees and customers). On the other hand, from a personal perspective, the importance of good communication within the project was one of my key learnings (e.g. consider all stakeholders).
Besides my daily work, I used the time to explore the British culture, the country as well as the British weather. In summary, I can say: typical English breakfast is worth a try, Great Britain has beautiful cities, landscapes, coasts, and the weather is not as bad as its reputation. In fact, I did not even need my slicker that often.
