As more and more JIGs joined the program, an unofficial trip was organized by the trainees to bring together the different JIG classes. There were 18 of us trainees and JIGs who attended the unforgettable sailing trip in 22nd to the 25th April, 2016. We organized the private trip on the Ijsselmeer in the Netherlands to get to know each other.
Our boat is the unsinkable Tijalk Res Nova with Marteen as our skilled skipper. We formed groups out of 2~3 persons and cook for the others from our own country food. It was a wonderful experience where we got to know each other a lot more, we shared the working experience, exchanged our different cultures and life from back home. We even held the “Sailor and Pirates” themed party as a finale for the sailing trip.
If you think everything is just for fun and easy, you are very wrong. Everybody really need to work at Tijalk Res Nova! Since our boat is a traditional sailing ship, we assisted the skipper on getting all of us safely to the destinations. We met numerous weathers that changed so quickly, it was surprising to many of us who were sailing for the first time. Raining heavily one minute, hail the next, and then sunshine in another minute. Marteen is a really good team leader! With his clear instruction and full experience, we worked together very great! It was also during the windy periods that the boat rocked and at times, we were wondering whether we were going to capsize. Fortunately, everything turned out well and we arrived safely at our destinations.
On the overall, it was a really wonderful trip and we forged strong bonds with one another, having gone through the tough times and the good times throughout the sailing trip.
