A new class of JIGs just started their program in spring 2018. For the older JIG classes it was a great pleasure to welcome them at a networking event in the Jungheinrich headquarters in Hamburg. A couple of days ahead of the world cup in Russia only one activity fitted for a proper onboarding: Kicker. Kicker is the German word for table soccer, also called foosball. By the way, the informal capital of foosball in Germany is Hamburg - what a coincidence!
Organizing a fair tournament with differently skilled players is not easy, but there is a clever solution: a player who just lost a game plays together with a person who just won. This mode is called ´draw your partner` and generates a new combination of teams for every match. On the one hand, the games become very balanced; on the other hand, it helps a lot for networking.
In the end, everybody played together with at least ten different JIGs and had about 20 different opponents. This led to many chances to get to know the new and old colleagues in a competitive, but amusing situation. Of course, during the breaks and after the tournament everyone was still discussing about the matches, but also about the backgrounds, skills, plans or experiences with Jungheinrich. Very amusing were the matches on a long six versus six table or against a former player from the German women national team, who was part of the excellent event crew. Apart from the kicker, everyone was enjoying the nice food, the drinks and the comfortable situation of just cheering the others.
For sure, everyone will keep this delightful event in mind, stay in contact with new colleagues and perhaps ask his manager to buy a foosball table for the department, as it obviously strengthens the team mentality.
